Hello everyone,
I want to upgrade the ram in my laptop. As for now, it has 4 gigs of ddr2 667 mhz ram. It is the maximum type of ram (both size and frequency) the laptop officially supports. But I know motherboards may support better parts than those officially listed on the manufacturer's website.
I would like to install 2 4gb ram sticks. Has anyone ever had direct experience whether this works or not? Has anyone ever tried to do what I want to do?

DDR2 supports 2Gb a DIMM in most cases. That Laptop supports 4Gb of RAM max!

It is almost impossible to get 4Gb sticks of DDR2.
In your case an upgraded is not an option.

Hey thanks for the reply! I actually found these and don't know how reliable they are.

They recommend, among other things, you could buy 8gb of ram for the 5530g. That's why I'm asking if anyone has ever tried to install more ram than actually supported.

Plus, my PC has better specs than the one you suggested. Maybe mine's a model refresh. I have to check the chipset model..

Well, your MOB does not support more then 4GB of RAM.
Also, unbranded RAM is no good. I bought some and I had loads of problems.
Use Kingston or Crucial. You can not install more RAM then the MOB supports though.

I see.. I had a crosshair iv formula that supported up to 16gb of ram in a 4x4gb configuration. Yet when I installed 2 8gb sticks it worked. Well, I didn't try if 2 more sticks would work though.

Anyway, the ram in the computer is 6 yrs old. Would it be best if I replaced it?

The cpu is a zm-80 2.1 Ghz. For 50 euros i can get a new zm-86 2.4 Ghz. The cpu isn't soldered to the mobo. I know for sure, cause I removed it once then put it back. Would it work?

Buying a new laptop isn't an option, unfortunately.

The computer seems, so old I really do not think it is worth spending money on.
If you want to do some upgrades do the CPU. Also, get an SSD.
That will boost performance. Having a fresh install of your OS will bring new life back into the computer too.
I would not replace the RAM It does not matter how old it is. It will still run at the same speed.
