Acer Aspire upgrades

I'm considering buying an Acer Aspire V5-572 laptop but want to know how upgradable it will be.

I'm a bit out of touch with laptops these days and I gather that some now have batteries that aren't designed to be "user replaceable". What I don't know is whether this means "can't be replaced at all, except maybe by sending away (and paying a small fortune)" or "you can buy replacements for DIY install but it means taking off the back and voiding the warranty". Similarly, can memory and HDD be upgraded if required?

This is the vanilla 572 by the way (Acer part number NX.MA3EK.005), not the 572G or P variants.

I'd be grateful if anyone can shed any light on this for me.

PS: I note that this machine comes with Windows 8 installed. Is v8.1 a freely-available upgrade from Microsoft, or is that something that would have to come from the manufacturer when (and if) they make a model-specific build available?

Batteries have been fairly model-specific for as long as I can remember, but they were always quite easy for the user to drop out and replace. HDDs and RAM in laptops I've had have also been housed in bays that are easily accessible. However I get the impression that some recent laptops (like some recent mobile phones) have batteries that can't be so easily removed, requiring the underside of the machine to be completely removed and probably voiding the warranty in the process.

As I assume the battery should last at least as long as the warranty anyway then that might not be too much of a problem, as long as batteries can be sourced and replaced by someone reasonably comfortable with taking the back off a laptop. And while I would certainly hope that RAM and HDDs are still standard enough for additions/replacements to be readily sourced, I'm not sure whether they also require dismantling of this model. The Those are items that I might very well want to upgrade inside the warranty period.
