Laptop Specs:
i5 3230M
Geforce GTX 660M
8 GB RAM

Recently, my I've been getting some weird FPS in my games. I play Blacklight Retribution and Team Fortress 2. When I first got the laptop, I used to be able to play both games at max/high settings, with a stable 60 FPS. Now, when I play them, I get around 50 FPS with major lag spikes happening often. I've tried playing the games at low settings, but that didn't really fix things, I still receive huge lag spikes. Things I've tried to improve FPS:

CCleaner
Razer Game Booster
Defrag Hard Drive
Uninstalled Unused Programs

I'm considering resetting my laptop to factory settings, but as a last resort. Any other suggestions on what I can do to fix FPS problems?

Thanks in advance.

If it's running Windows 8 a system refresh might help.

Hi,

First, off, are you playing wireless, might be getting lag from it,
Also is your gpu driver up to date ?

Second, do you monitor your temperatures, get msi afterburner to check you GPU and coretemp (majorgeek) to check your cpu.

Also get hard disk sentinel for hard drive and speccy and / or speedfan for motherboard. For the last item you have to test it out because they not support all laptops.

Also run adwcleaner / roguekiller / malwarebyte to rule out malware.

If all is of, you might want to go ahead with resetting to factory.

I refreshed Windows as zeph_yr suggested, but I have to redownload all my games for some reason, so I will have to test tomorrow.

I always check my ping when I play, and it's usually 30-50. My driver is up to date. As for the ones that require the game, as I said, I will have to test later after they have finished downloading and installing. Will post back as soon I test. Thanks for the suggestions, I will try all of them.

Thanks, I don't know why this never showed up on any other forums and threads. System is running as it was in the beginning. Thanks again!
