System recover manager not start on boot up with recovery disk

if doing it by media, make sure the disks were created from that machine or in the least same architecture (32bit vs 64bit)

also, F11 should take you to the hidden HP partition for HP's recovery. It will probably ask two options
1) try to repair windows
2) reinstall back to out-of-box new state

do not forget to back up data unless you have such bad virus's that you need fresh install

If you have an external drive or blank dvd's. Make a full backup or image of your system. There are plenty of free programs out there like Macrium Reflect Free. You can do to USB/external hd/dvd/cd and with a recovery start disk for the program you use.

I say this because if, in your instance it was drive failure, you could just run the backup software, select location of image and be back up and running to last last image and not have to go through updates, re-installs and all. They have paid versions as well that will let you restore to different hardware but the free version worked at least for new hard drive (persons hard drive had failed that I do work for). Their hard drive had fatal failure, went bought same size (different mfg) hard drive, used backup recovery disk, chose image file off external hd and was back up with software, data, updates all there (windows 7) except windows had to find new driver for hard drive. Total down time was about 3 hours but much less considering having to do all the windows update,restart, update, install software, update software, and start over on data that wasn't saved.
