Thank you for your suggestion but here in Coimbatore (South Indian City) most of the models available are Sony and Panasonic make. Can you or anybody suggest some of the models from Sony and Panasonic in the price range of $350-$450

It will also help if you go to some stores and hold a few models in your hand and get a feel for the operation. A rigid tripod will help.

Thanks for both of you Kenrivers and Ubrales. I did inquire here and found out that Panasonic doesn't have a proper service network here so the only option for me is to buy a Sony make. The model 8GB HDR-PJ275 is not available here. The model available here is HDR-PJ240E Full HD with Built-in Projector, which is within my budget. Please give your suggestions regarding this model.

Looks like a cool product! And it has Carl Zeiss optics (great).
Make sure you ALWAYS use the neck strap over your neck (not on your shoulder to look cool) whenever you are handling the camcorder and/or shooting videos. Dropping this might be a disaster!

Looks like the HDR-PJ240E would work for you. I agree with Ubrales, the Carl Zeiss optics are great. I own four Sony camcorders and have been pleased with the performance of each. Make sure you use a Class 4 or higher micro SD card and get a couple so you will have a spare. As Ubrales has already mentioned make sure you get a good tripod as well.
