Yes, technically.Since the MSI GT70 Dominator has an i7-4800MQ CPU, it is actually in a physical slot. The i7-4700HQ is soldered onto the board.
So you could get a GT70 with a 4700MQ or so, and put in an i7-4900MQ later, although it would not be cost effective, and it really wouldn't give you a whole bunch more power.
Most people very seldom cap out their CPU these days. It generally falls back on the GPU.
Also keep in mind that you're going to want a Good Cooling Pad for the MSI GT Series. While great laptops they do run on a single fan for both the GPU and CPU, and can generate some heat. A cooling pad takes care of it though.
i'm not asking about the CPU ,i know that it can be upgradeable.i am asking about the GPU.the Nvidia GTX 870m equipped with the laptop.can i upgrade it to the 6 GB version or to another whole different GPU later?

I am looking into the Gt70 Dominator as well. If the GPU can't be upgraded is there a version that can be upgraded? No. Only something like the Y510p with the Ultrabay can be upgraded.
thank you construkt.i will get that laptop since it's the right thing for my price range ( 1400-1500 USD ) . and since no shipping company agreed to ship me the sager's new laptop with 6 gigs of Vram.
i hate being in egypt seriously

I am pretty sure that GT70 dominator version with GTX870M is MXM slot and it can be upgrade to GTX880M if u want.Actually there is a company in Taiwan have doing such upgrade service. FYI
This is GTX880M
And this is the MXM slot that on the mother board of GT70
this is awesome!!
but ,can i easily remove the card and install the new one ?supposedly i get it from some site like ( i don't want to post links to sites because i don't know would it be violating any rules, anyway the site's name has the word monkey in it
) ? will the standard bios of the laptop handle the upgrade?or would i need to tweak something?or wouldn't it work at all ?
it's not just a matter of slot you know..

The original bios works fine if u r buying GT70 Dominator version, u even no need to change ur nvdia driver as well ,just kinda open the notebook cover and unplug 870m replace it with 880m then it will work fine, the only tool u need is only a screw driver and some thermal paste. BTW,ur notebook temp will be a bit higher than using 870m but it dosent affect the performance of ur notebook.

so it's versions , can't i just grab whatever available ? the available stand-alone GPU's like these are for the clevo/sager and alienware laptops.i didn't pass upon a GPU of msi available for purchase.
so if i just plugged in the clevo version ( or that's what said on the website that sells these stuff ) on my laptop ,would i experience problems?

Keep in mind, the 180w AC adapter that comes with the MSI gaming laptops may not be up to the task of full utilization of the GPU and CPU at the same time without using battery power to assist (NOS)! The problem is worse if you later put in an extreme CPU like a 4940MX. They should have made 240W standard especially on the 780m/880m versions. The GT70-2OD Dragon review on tomshardware goes through this in detail.
I do think this will be my next laptop though, used in a few years. Extreme CPUs should be cheaper by then too.
