Is this model of the y510p a good deal for the price?

I am currently looking at this Lenovo y510p from Amazon. I am planning on making the purchase in 2-3 weeks. I was looking for a gaming laptop for under $1000 (graduation gift).

That being said, this will NOT be my primary gaming rig. I have a gaming desktop that I will be primarily using. This laptop is only going to be used when I go to a friend's house for a LAN or when I travel. For the most part, I will play LoL on it, but for LANs we do play some more intense games (BF4, Dying Light when it comes out, etc...).

My concern with this laptop is the SLI configuration. I'm not familiar with SLI/Crossfire, nor with gaming laptops. I have read reviews about issues with microstuttering, overheating, and throttling (not sure what that is). My question is, will I have any of these issues? When I do game during a LAN, it is a heavy session (we finished a 4 player coop of Borderlands 2 in one sitting including most of the side quests).

Thank you for the help!

which one on amazon were you looking at and did you read the Q&A from members on amazon. I just ordered one from lenovo myself due to the one i was looking at was 1048. It came with matte screen, 2 graphics cards, 8 ssd, 1tb hd for 1048 not including tax or extended warranty.....one straight from lenovo was 1177 and this included glossy (also watch movies), 24gb ssd, dvd burner, got the extra graphics card (899 doesnt come with extra) and 2 year accidental for 1177.?? which I think is better. I know you will probably need cooling mat if this works out for you. I just checked lenovo's sight and sale is still going on.

Side note one rep tried to tell me i needed the power adapter in accessory add-on (for dual video) but when i clicked info on it (info for adapter) it said it was the same as the one that came with the unit.

I linked the exact model in the first thread. It is the 899 model, and it does come with 2 cards (dual 755m). It has the same specs as what you mentioned, but is an i5 instead of i7.

nope, same i7,
http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/ideapad/y-series/y510p/
choose the 899 one then (if you want add the 2 year accidental warranty) and under accessories add the sli 755m card) comes to about 1126 then tax took me to 1177
on amazon if you are looking at the 1048 model it has matte screen vs glossy and 8ssd instead of 24 ssd and you keep the dvd burner included (it is in the ultra bay so when you do not need dual graphics you can still use optical drive), 1048 on amazon do not get optical

I'm not really sure what you're trying to get at. My question in the first post is about heating and throttle issues. I'm not interested in spending more out buying from the Lenovo website.

sorry did not see the link in first message. I was only trying to help with cost (not spending extra) amazon with extended is about same i mentioned. As for heating from the research i did you will have to get a cooling pad depending on amount of gaming done. Again, was just trying to help when you get other response as I stated in my first message
