Hey all,

Looking to upgrade my K53Z mobo laptop. Currently have A6-3420M (35W). Not a lot of options out there, but have targeted either the A8-3420M (35W) or A8-3510mx (45W). Would rather have the latter, but of course the concern is the extra 15W.

My question is can the K53Z support the 45W APU?

Update:

Decided on the A8-3510MX, and am going to see if my mobo can cope with the extra heat. Interesting enough, the data indicated my current factory APU (A6-3420M) doesn't support my 1600 RAM (only 1333) upgrade from last year, but this one will. It doesn't NOT work, though, but you get my meaning. Also interesting is that the A8-3510MX appears to score higher on PassMark
Code:
than the next APU up (A8-3530MX), which is great news because there is a huge price jump. Maybe I got lucky and found a sweet spot?

Anyway, any tech specs about socket wattage for the K53Z would be appreciated.
I am still hitting a wall finding thorough techs specs on that board. Thx

Nice! I successfully swapped out the APU. Runs very stable. The extra wattage seems to wear my battery out much faster (already need a 2nd replacement). Also must have cracked something on the motherboard when opening the laptop. OS will freeze on load when in a cooler room (or on the cooler floor) if attempting to booting on battery. Seems to indicate a thermal contraction problem with power flow.
