What's Wrong With My Laptop Audio?

I have a Acer Aspire laptop with windows 7. I use external speakers to listen to music and such. As of yesterday, when I play songs, certain parts in the song sound muffled. Like if there's a part in a song when the instrument echoes, you don't hear it, It'll just be silent. Only the loud parts of songs sound clear and normal. This is with external speakers, the speakers on the laptop, and headphones. I've tried switching external speakers, headphones and all that, but it sounds the same. I've even tried to use a different music program besides iTunes, but the problem is still there. There's nothing wrong with any equalizers either.

What do I do? Is it the headphone jack? Is there something wrong with the sound chip in the motherboard? Do I install new drivers? Or what? I checked to see if my audio driver is up to date, and the computer said it was. Any suggestions?

Did you check the drivers in Windows or look at ACER's web site? If in Windows, go online to the ACER support site and check there. Although it may not help much if this worked fine before. A Windows update could have caused the issue, if the drivers don't help, try rolling back the system a day or two.
