Hi, I'm in college now and I plan to buy a laptop for both study purpose (I'm an IT student, there's going to be a lot of programming and multimedia) and also gaming. I wish to play games like Assassin's Creed, Battlefield, Starcraft 2 and many more in at least high settings.

My basic requirements are:
1. Smooth game play
2. No noise when playing
3. Laptop does not get very hot
4. Size between 14" to 18"
5. Weight under 4 kg (I have to move a lot as a student)
6. More than 3 hours of battery life during normal use

Please recommend a suitable laptop for me.
Thanks in advance.

Actually battery life is not that big of a deal since I'm going to be using it mostly plugged into a power source. Thanks for the suggestion.

Try a Lenovo y510p, It has some nice graphics capabilities. I got the y410p version, but I warn you the keyboard is hard to get used to. Programming is sometimes hard with this keyboard. If you want something with more graphics capabilities I suggest a ASUS ROG. I was gonna get one of these but my budget didn't allow, unlike yours.

I would have gone with the Asus ROG if they weren't so heavy (almost 5 kg). The Lenovo Y510p seems pretty decent though. What I don't understand is it's dual graphic card. Is dual graphic cards better for gaming than a single graphic card? Because I've read that dual graphic cards may cause some compatibility issues.

AFAIK, the y510p has fairly average cooling (as far as some reviews go). So expect temperatures of about 80°C.
For the sli problem you "may" face some micro-stuttering when playing games on high/ultra and when fps drops below 30 (and it will drop below 30 on ultra)

You might want to look at msi. they have some really good laptops for a more than fair price. a buddy of mine got a 14" msi laptop with an i7-4700m and a gtx 765m for around 1100$ before tax. specs wise it competes with alienwares laptops but at a lower price. theres also cyberpowerpc.com that has some really neat options especially if you want more than 8gb of ram.

Should I get a single GPU instead of SLI? I've read that dual GPUs produce more heat and may cause the CPU to throttle. So my question is, if I get the Lenovo Y510p with a single GPU, will it be able to handle games like BF4 with high settings?

Yes it will cause the CPU to throttle. But i think the i7 will be able to handle it.
No with a single gt755m you will not be able to get playable frame rate at high settings on 1080p.
