Hello everyone,

I am looking to add some speakers to me "home theater" setup. It is in quotations because it is really on a budget. I have my HTPC hooked up to my TV and a 2.1 Cyber Acoustic computer speaker set up hooked up to the HTPC for sound. I took them from my PC rig, since I pretty much use headphones, but I would like to put them back and find a decent, yet budget friendly audio system.

I am looking for a 2.1 system, although I am open to pretty much anything. I am looking for a clear sound, but nothing booming like in a theater. I am pretty hard of hearing, in that it is hard for me to hear voices. I have to turn up the TV, when I use the audio on it, when characters are speaking. However, when music or audio special effects come on, I have to turn it down because it is way too loud.

If anyone has any suggestions, help or advice, I would surely appreciate the input. My budget is between $100-200. I would like to keep it to the former or midway, if I can. Low, but that is what I am working with.

Thank you in advance for your help!

if you are in the usa and intend to keep using your pc for sound then something like the z506 will work pretty decent and doesnt get much cheaper for surround.

if you actually wanted to branch out into real home theater speakers then you will need some semblance of a budget.. perhaps $200-300 to get anything half decent. remember you will need an amplifier for any speaker that you would buy so part of the starting budget would need to apply for that.

basically it boils down to 3 choices:

-buy receiver and 2.0 speakers now then upgrade to a 5.1 in the future.
-buy a cheap HTIB (though these...
Used is usually the best way to go like "Shadowed" posted.

In terms of dialog, a center channel speaker is the best choice and a good center channel speaker for any 3.1/5/1/7.1 plus system. Especially since you have a problem hearing dialog, a center channel would help immensely.

With correct sound adjustments you could crank up the dialog portions while leaving the special effects portions set at a good level.

What TV are you using?

Be seeing you, the Prisoner...

-continue to use computer speakers if the pc is your primary source device
