Samsung Series 5 - CPU Spike to 100%

Hi y'all,

I'm currently in a tight pickle here. I have a Samsung Series 5 A6-4455m (it's not the best laptop/ultrabook out there but hey, its a gift) and it just started spiking up to 100% randomly even in idle or just minimizing my application to desktop and it's getting to hot for my liking. So here's the thing, could it be a heating problem that i should open it up and replace the thermal grease(don't worry, it's already out of warranty)? or is it a software problem (maybe system files? background apps? startup? :pt1cable:

)?

Oh, and it just started a few days ago while trying to play L4D with my brothers.

Any recommendation and answers are very much appreciated.

Your laptop probably cant handle the gaming load. It may be best (for the sake of your laptop) to stop playing that game. If it does keep overheating like that you may run into more serious issues later...

Yeah, i was also thinking the same thing so i stopped cpu hungry apps like games. However, now that i'm currently surfing and just posting this reply, i can see in task manager that it's still spiking to 100%! The only apps that is open right about now is my browser (chrome). This never happened before, even if im playing some light games or just surfing or watching a movie.

Check that all the stuff installed along with the game have been removed, if not remove it all. Also check programs and features for any unknown programs and remove them too. Finally do a full system scan for viruses etc.
If all this fails do a restore to a date prior to installing the game.
Your last resort will unfortunately be to re-install the OS, lets hope it doesn't come to that..

Hi, in the Windows Task Manager, go to Processes, click Show processes from all users, and click on CPU. You will see which processes are demanding the most time from your CPU.

2. svchost.exe / System Idle Process
3. System

I also tried booting up on safe mode and to my surprise, it doesn't really consume much (barely even 5-10%) so i'm thinking that could it be a system conflict? and again, it's getting real hot for me so i'm thinking to open it up and check if there are heating problems. You think it's wise to open it?

If it's too hot for your liking, try the program Core Temp, and look at the temperature you have.

I tried that program and it doesn't really show me the current temp. I wonder why. :??:
