Hey all,

Ok ive got this issue and its driving me nuts:

I have a laptop that powers on no problem and starts up no problem but the LCD screen shows no display, the backlight comes on however.

So far ive replaced the inverter, didnt change anything, changed the LCD screen, didnt fix it and also changed the cable from mainboard to screen and tried every combination of them all i can think of.

Here is the thing, ive confirmed the graphics card is fine - plugged into a monitor computer starts up and displays no issues.

Im officially stumped, any one else got any ideas of what i may be missing?

Thanks very much in advance for the help guys

John,

I hope that when you fitted the new screen you got the details off the back of the old one.
The brand and model number.
Often the mistake is thinking that a screen of the same size can be used.
And if you check if it is lcd back lit, or uses a cold cathode white light array.
Via an invert board.

But the internal decode chip on the screen matters, in some cases.
Simply because at set resolutions the Hz range can be different.
What I am saying is if the last resolution in the laptop was set at 1600x1050 at 75 hz the screen would be black when loading into windows on the laptop screen.

The resolution and display Hz may differ with the new screen. So the prior settings of the old screen are wrong, but still stored in the windows resolution table.

If it at least shows a boot when powered on it`s the case.

All you have to do with another monitor is set the resolution lower.
Or go into safe mode and remove the video driver and let window reboot with the laptop screen enabled.

When you install a video driver it talks to the lcd screen via signal to the graphics chip set it tells it what resolutions it is capable of at what hz, or screen refresh rates.
The driver or windows stores this as reference.
But if the screen differs, it will not do it on a second run or replacement, because it has already performed the operation.

Then re-install the video driver.

The Second is to Try the FN key together with the Switch display F key.

Cheers for the replies guys! I'll check this ASAP and get back to you

In response to the first post. I completely replaced all cables. The inverter and the screen. I also used the serial from the back of the original screen. This isn't the first screen I've replaced on a laptop but it's the first time that it hasn't been a case of replace and done

I'll give your suggestions a go as soon as I'm able and I'll get back to you ASAP. Thanks again!

If you can use a meter to read the screen in continuity, while it is connected to the board without battery or power adapter on it.....
Better still get specialist service
