Solution
Go for 8GB of RAM due to diminishing performance returns after 8GB. instead, use that money for an SSD upgrade to, say, 500GB. The only reason to have that much memory is for hardcore photoshopping.

That should perform adequately. You don't need more than 8gb of RAM due to diminishing performance returns. Use the memory money to get a bigger SSD. Of you're unsure of anything, go down to your local PC store and try out their HP Envies. Maybe they won't be the exact specs you want, but it can be good to get a firsthand look at build quality. Places to pressure test (jab firmly with one or two fingers) are the palm rest, keyboard deck (generally between the 'g' and 'h' key, and all over is good), back if the 'lid' and maybe open Word and type something to get a feel for the keyboard.

As long as you take care of it properly, there's no reason for it to die on you. Invest in a cooling pad or maybe make your own- prop it up on some objects so the air vents have lots of room to intake air. As I said, try and test out the keyboard- some Acer laptops and Toshiba Satellites have crap keyboards, and it's important to get a good one as you'll spend a lot of time using it. However, recent HP laptops have been quite good.

Best way to take care of it is to make sure the heat levels stay low. Avoid dropping it, too, but most don't do this so keep the heat levels low.
