I have had this Toshibe Satellite (Don't know the model is) laptop for about two years now and the "hinges" connecting the screen to the rest of it have broken twice since I bought the damn thing. I need this laptop to carry with me to college as I am a commuter student.

So, what I'm asking is if there is a website or place that sells laptop "cases"?

I have my HDD and RAM sticks ready to go into another machine. Can I just buy a laptop that has a screen, motherboard, i5 and up processor, etc... without having to pay extra for a HDD and RAM?

I need this laptop mostly for light gaming and college work. I am a Networking major so I will need it to preform network penetration, testing, etc... I'm also looking for upgradability in the future. Like I said I'm good on RAM and my HDD but the processor is i5 so...

You can custom build laptops, but they still come configured with preset hardware options. If you go with a barebones model, you get no memory and no drives, but you also get no CPU, and no wireless card. You also may not get support if you're putting your own hardware in. Many laptop customization retailers/resellers tend to not sell barebones to end users though. :(

well, you wont find any manufacture sold laptop without ram or hhd since they are all sold and loaded with windows which needs both. You could try a sager or something that builds laptops to order, but still don't think they'll omit the ram or hhd option. As far as upgrading in the future, if you talking upgrading the hhd or ram, most laptops allow that. If you talking upgrading processor and such like that, there are very few, and most of the time upgrading the processor also requires upgrading the motherboard to one that works with the new version of the processor. I know a few like sager have cpu's that aren't soldered onto the motherboard and allow upgrading. But if you buy a newer version cpu you'll still have to upgrade the motherboard and last I checked that's not a feasible option for a laptop.

Hope this helps

Well that's a damn shame. So you're telling me that I need to buy a whole new laptop just to utilize its portability? I find it difficult to believe there is no place out there where you can custom build your own laptop and order it. I mean all I need is everything but the hdd and ram sticks.
