VLC installer vs Portable Version

Solution
Oh ya the shell integration is only an option with the installer. You can't set it in preferences. I always disabled it anyways, it's just more clutter in the menus.

The taskbar recent and pinned items has nothing to do with vlc, unless I'm just misunderstanding what you are talking about.

Portable means you don't need to install it. You just unpack it and you can run it. I can think of only 1 advantage and that is you don't have to manually set files to default to vlc. I prefer not installing programs if I don't have to. I use vlc and it's not installed.

Yeah I would prefer the non installed version if it's only file opening defaults, on my current machine I'm using the non installed version
was thinking the installed version might be faster?

Also I noticed that if you right click in on the taskbar it doesn't show resent & pinned items, i pretty sure it use to do this for the first few months or so =P
was thinking that windows stopping during as it wasn't an installed program but idk
