Hi,

I'm on windows XP on a Samsung Netbook.

Basically I just have a black screen when I try to boot up. I've tried safe mode several times, but after selecting safe mode I still return to a black screen. I've tried all the safe modes offered.

I have also tried recover and I get the following message:

The file or directory c:\WINDOWS is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility

How do I do this if I can't start up, do I head to the command screen and simply type Chkdsk after the prompt?

Also I've investigated repairing xp, but I don't have a cd drive (it's a netbook) or external drive and all the about creating a usb repair file that I've found on this site so far, don't work.

Have I lost all of my files/ data?

I appreciate any help that I can get. I took the day off work to get some things done on a few projects and this has really set me back some and I'm concerned about the data loss. Is there any way I can get it back?

Thank you for your quick response. I thought as much. I've bought it into a repair place - I just hope they can fix it. I'll report back as to what they say in case it helps someone else. Bit nervous about data loss though!
