I'll be getting a new gaming rig in a couple of weeks and I plan to incorporate it in to my home theatre setup. It's been amost 10 years since I last purchased one so I'm looking forward to getting it.

Anyway, I'm planning to connect the pc via HDMI to my receiver which in turn connects to my TV. Gaming using my 5.1 setup will be awesome, but there will be times that I need to be quiet. I'm looking at getting either the Asus ROG Vulcan or the Vulcan Pro. I'm hoping some of you gamers out there have a setup that runs through a receiver and can help me out?

If I connect the headset directly to the PC will the sound now only come through the headset and the video still go through HDMI or do I have to do something else to get everything running?

Do you suggest bypassing the PC all together and plugging directly into the front of my Str dn 1040 receiver?

I wondered if I could just send video through the receiver and change the audio device to the onboard sound card. It's only an idea but I can't test it until I get the PC. Anyone confirm this is possible.

I'm really not sure what to do?

Any help would be most appreciated

Some of the components in my rig

Intel i7 4770k cpu (1150)
MSI GTX 780Ti GAMING Twin Frozr IV 3GB
Samsung 256GB 840 Pro Series
Asus MAXIMUS VI FORMULA Socket 1150 Motherboard
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit
860W Corsair AX860i

Don't bypass the pc.

Go to the bottom right and right click on the speaker icon.
Click Playback Devices -> Right click in a blank area and make sure it shows everything -> Locate your sound card and make it your default device.
