Hi guys,

Just looking for some input regarding my new laptop. I'm trying to decide whether a GTX 780M is worth the extra outlay over a 770M - currently it demands roughly £250 more.

Would I be better sinking that money into other upgrades rather than the GPU?

For example, for around the £1300 mark I could get a laptop with a i5 4200, 750GB (7200rpm) HDD and a GTX 780M. Or, for £100 less, the same laptop but with a i7 4700, a 128GB SSD in addition to the HDD and a Killer 1202 wireless adapter with Bluetooth.

Seems like the latter offers a lot more for the money, but will the drop to a 770M make a big difference as far as games go?

I mainly play (reasonably) easy games in terms of system resources, such as Warframe and EVE. However I also enjoy BF4 and will want this laptop to last a couple of years - enough at least to play Star Citizen reasonably well.

Also, I will be using this laptop for uni work, including all office programs but particularly MS Excel, Access and Visio.

I'd consider AMD too, but currently they seem a little out-matched in the mobile market - unless I'm wrong there!

Thanks to anyone with any insight!

Edit: Forgot to mention that I'd like to be using a resolution of 1920x1080, in case that makes a significant difference.

Thanks for your response. The 780 does indeed seem a lot stronger. I guess my choice is either to make sacrifices elsewhere in order to get it (as listed in my first post) or save up another £250 in order to get the same spec with the 780.

Just seen the mobile GPU comparison on here, and it seems the Radeon 8970M is only slightly slower than the 780, but actually costs less than a 770! So that's another option. Never had an AMD card though, and have of course heard all the driver-related horror stories etc. Does anyone have an opinion on the 8970M?

My full sized AMD gfx card works fine. I used not to like them, but they have a GREAT price for the value. I would go with that honestly, if it's similar speed. I heard all of the problems are gone with the AMD drivers, as long as you don't have crossfire (dual) gfx cards.
