Hi there, I hope someone can help me with this now, iv had 2 days with this problem and im still stuck.

I have a Samsung NP-R730 Laptop, I have had it for 2 years, its been locked away for 6 months and used one a week, the bottom part of the chassis had taken a knock in the first 5 month of owning it, I had recently found someone selling a complete chassis for this laptop very cheap so I decided to purchase it and swap everything over.

I have had no issues with this laptop up untill now apart from the battery could do with replacing, thats all.

So I stripped everything down, and air dusted everything, and made sure everything was counted for, put it all in the new chassis and fired it up, it booted first time no problem, straight onto the O/S, however the keyboard didnt work so I shut it down, removed the power cable and battery, lifted the keyboard and looked and saw that the ribbon looked slightly out at one side, so I refitted it, put the battery and power cable back in and turned it back on and this is when it began, the power light came on, battery charging light came on,HDD spinning, Optical drive responding but no CPU light, a blank screen and the CPU fan not working. It still responds to the hold the button down for 8 seconds to shut down, but thats the only normal thing about it now.
So far I have tried the following:

  • Reseated the RAM, tested other working ram in the machine.
    Reseated the HDD
Cleared CMOS - Removed battery and shorted pins
    External monitor
    Discharge unit
    Strip down again and rebuild
    Replace Heatsink compound
    Replacment Battery
    Replacment Charger

The CPU fan comes on after leaving the unit on for around 10 minutes or so, it then goes back off a few minutes later and will repeat this process untill switched off.

I do not know what is wrong with it, I would guess and say the motherboard or CPU, now if it was the CPU would it not just not turn on at all? I could do with a way of tested each item so I can narrow it down to just one.

I cant think of any other ways I am giving it up for today and will hope someone comes up with another idea I can try, or even better a solution.

Thanks in advance everyone.

I do believe I have correctly seated it, I never actually removed it when I transferred it to the new chassis but I guess it may have moved due to the flexing of the motherboard. Ill try that tonight once I get home and see where I get.

I ran it until 1am this morning and it just did the usual, fan kicking in every now and again but still no luck.

Thank you for the fast response.
