Hi

I am sitting here contemplating buying a new GPU for my laptop based on my troubleshooting steps, but I don't want to go for it cause it could also be the motherboard.

I dropped MSI GX660 i5 460M ATI HD5870M from the bed when I fell sleep and woke up in a panic. I 100% took it apart and found no damage to any component except a couple of pins on the casing and CMOS battery also came off. Tried original SoDIMMs and original HDD, but when I turn it on, the screen stays completely black, no display on external monitor either.

After I turn it on I get HDD spins, fan spins, CD ROM spin, LEDs and all, but no display, no even back light. I've done multiple hard reset to BIOS/power circle. The last thing I tried was taking off the GPU and trying to power it on and I get the same result as when the GPU is in as if the GPU was not even in at all.

Is it possible that it could be my motherboard after what I've explained or it definitely has to be the GPU?

If it is the GPU is not too bad because I can just upgrade it to a HD6990, but if it is the motherboard, then I am going to have a hell of a time finding one to replace it since I can't find any online and won't be able to get a GPU upgrade.

Thanks for help,
Ery
