So, on top of a gaming PC I bought a work laptop. Nothing special, just needs to browse and type up word documents etc, maybe even play a bit of music.

I don't know much about laptop CPU's/GPU's but I saw these specs:

700gb HDD (7200 RPM)
6GB RAM
AMD E2-1800 APU

and bought the G6. It was £20 cheaper than a model with an i3 in it (and I don't have much intel/AMD preference) so I bought this one. (Assuming it must be a similar spec to the intel i3 which I trust.)

I have NEVER been so disappointed in my life.

- This laptop struggles to play youtube videos (It plays sound for 5 secs then the video catches up)
- It struggles to load more than 5 tabs on chrome
- It struggles with small flash applications...
- Processor hits about 70 degrees and I'm running chrome and Word...
- ~15 FPS with age of empires II.... I'm serious. My win 98 machine about 15 years ago played it better.

What is this CPU made from? saw dust and cotton wool???

Basically my question is such:

Is this just me or this laptop?
If it's this laptop can I upgrade it/install Linux or something to make it better?
Based on this experience I haven't bought AMD for my main rig - should I continue?

Cheers,

Luke

True, I didn't put much thought into it - It was in a similar price bracket to things which I know better. I honestly didn't care much for the performance of this laptop, though I thought the nice amount of RAM and HDD speed would make it nippy in simple apps.

Phones and tablets have less difficulty than this machine would playing youtube or even something silly like flappy bird lol.

Would installing a Linux distro instead of Win8 'cut the crap' and make it a bit more agreeable?
