I recently purchased a refurbished Dell XPS 15 L521X notebook PC. It came with a re-install disk for its Windows 7 OS, but no recovery disk for its drivers. How can I make a recovery/re-install disk for the PC's drivers? The Dell site allows downloading of drivers, but I think the downloads are directly to the PC using the drivers, and not to storage media (i.e., DVD, hard drive). Will Dell provide a recovery disk for the drivers? Thanks for reading and any information.

Hi

Often recovery windows dvd's include drivers & trial software & utilities
If not download the Dell drivers for your version (32 or 64 bit ) windows 7 and put them on a DVD
it will lack the auto run which detects the hardware and starts installing the required drivers for you

Dell drivers have numerical names so you need a list of file names and what they are for
Put this on the DVD as well
The downloads will go to the default download folder for the browser you are using

The most important drivers are the motherboard chipset drivers and network or wireless networking drivers

After which you will be able to get on line and download the rest

The official driver disk is likely to be out of date compared to the Downloads from...

you should also collect the Dell user guide and service manual for you PC while you are there

Hi Mike-

Thank you for your informative response. Sorry I didn't acknowledge your reply until now, I simply overlooked doing so. In the meantime, I requested and received recovery disks from Dell for the Windows 7 OS and drivers/utilities. I plan to soon download the latest drivers from Dell and put them on a DVD, as you suggested.

Thanks again,
Ken
