I got the laptop today. Started it up, set up an account on win8 and then started looking at windows updates. I first get this nvidia windows kernel mode driver stopped responding error, so I decided to update the drivers for the video. I restarted and it seemed to have helped it, but not after a few tries of forcing power off and powering back on a few times. The HDD light, power light, and charging light show activity and you can hear fans kicking on, but no video. I let it sit around a few minutes and nothing. So I force power off, and power back on until video shows. Windows updates seem to be having problems, when I reboot it doesn't always come back with video.

I mean, these are obvious problems and I'm taking it back tomorrow. This is the my second one.(The first had one dead pixel and a dead cell in the battery, but worked perfect other than the stated issues) Anyone have any idea where the issue may lie? I'm pointing to the motherboard, but perhaps this is more of a windows issue in general(doubtful).

Any tips, suggestions, advice, etc?

Thanks.

...Huh. I've got the BB model of a G75VW (it was actually an amazing deal when they were clearing them out for the new G750s) - it's worked flawlessly and taken some serious abuse like a champ. The thing's built like a tank... hell, it runs cooler than my desktop used to. You seem to have a serious case of bad luck. Granted, I replaced Win8 immediately with a retail copy of Win7, but no way should you be having these kinds of problems with any operating system.

Sounds like a motherboard problem, if you're having video problems on boot, though it might be a problem with the video card... in theory, you could replace the card with a different unit if it's anything like my G75, but no way will you ever find an actual replacement to use outside of buying one from Asus.

Sounds like you're already doing the best thing by returning it; I have to say it sounds like the local BB has some serious quality issues. I've never had serious problems with an Asus product of any kind, even their cheap entry-level systems.

They apparently got this one last night on a truck and was available for exchange today. I was really hoping this one was flawless. I'm definitely not shooting down Asus because of this. They're (usually) amazing and have quality products. I'm just bummed out.
