dell laptop cursor won't move

I've seen the acer thread, re cursor issues. I have a dell inspiron with XP & the cursor won't move via the integral pad. It will operate with the USB mouse. I would prefer to have the laptop pad working however. Any clues....?

I would check the device manager and make sure your touchpad has its drivers. Failing that, I'd think the ribbon cable must have been disconnected at some point, but I'm much more inclined to believe it's a driver issue.
If you find that your mouse doesn't have its drivers, you can go to the Dell support website, enter your service tag (this should be on the bottom of your laptop), and find anything that looks like it's a touchpad driver. Download, install, reboot, and you should be good.
