I'm not sure if i should ask this question here, so, that being said, i invite the administrators to delete my question if needed.

So, my question is how many popular TV channels support 4K resolutions (by popular i mean ESPN, Eurosport, FOX etc.)? Because i have a feeling that more and more content is being brought in 4K like the upcoming football world cup in Brazil.

I would say they probably will be in the future, just like how they did when 720p was introduced and then 1080p.

There are no TV channels with any plans to go beyond the current 1080i or 720p that are supported by over the air ATSC standards. Direct TV has a few pay per view channels that are 1080p. Bluray is 1080p. Cable and satellite providers already compress the HDTV signals compared to over the air so there is some work going on the figure out how to send a signal twice as large over the same system. Netflix says they have something in the works. Sony has a media server that you can download to that supports 4k.
