After an electric storm last night my laptop does not come on anymore. The PSU still works perfectly. I use the laptop without the battery because the battery cant hold a charge. When the battery is inserted the laptop starts but dies cause it cant hold a charge. But doesnt come on at all if the battery is removed. Help me...!! I didnt back up my laptop.

does the charging light on the laptop itself come on when you plug your cable in?
how do you know your PSU still works perfectly? (a little light doesn't mean its working right, only if its works powering another computer you know its working right)

it sounds like the internal fuse burnt and there not replaceable (unless you know how to do electronic repair)(look up solid state fuse for more info) they don't look like normal fuses but blend in with electrical components, and usually all this is located on the motherboard itself.

if you need the data you can take the hard drive out and hook it up to another computer as a second drive to get the data for now

No the charge light on the laptop doesnt come on anymore. Right right thanx. I figured because the battery charged alittle the power supply should be working properly... so it is possible that the PSU was damaged aswell as the laptops fuse? Although the PSU light is still on? Thanx alot for the help...

by chance do you have a volt meter if so can you measure the dc voltage coming out of the adaptor and the output voltage and current listed on the label?

Unfortunately I dont.... any other options? Insurance company is failing to find the fault and are blaming it on the RAM. Which obviously makes no sense....

I would still go to say that the motherboard itself got damaged and not the power supply. I honestly don't know how you could prove it though
