Hey guys, I recently got a Dell Inspiron 15R 5521. One day I was skyping someone and my 10 month old son came along, pressed some buttons and somehow disabled the webcam. I tried restarting the call and the camera still didn't work. I then went onto the camera app in windows 8 metro tiles and it said "connect a webcam to start." I went on the dell website with no luck. An help?

a little bit of google and found this by Vampire, i think the problem is similar to yours in regards to "connect a webcam to start" meant was the Dell Webcam is not enabled/turn on ~

"Windows 8 operating system has 'Camera' app. You can access the 'Camera' app from the start screen. In case you are not able to see the 'Camera' app on the start screen, you can download it from 'Windows Store Apps'.

From the Start screen, click the 'Camera' tile to open the app
If the app asks to use your camera and microphone, choose 'Allow'
Adjust the settings, if desired
To snap a photo, click anywhere on the screen
The camera app saves all your snapped photos and videos in a folder called 'Camera Roll' in your Pictures library.

Alternative ways(recommended)

Please follow the steps below to turn on the Dell Webcam:

1.Make sure to start the Dell Webcam Central in a well-lighted area.
2.Click Start.
3.Click All Programs.
4.Click Dell Webcam.
5.Click Webcam Central to start the program.

You may also refer to the link for Dell Webcam related issues: http://dell.to/RibqxG"

see if that helps

Your answer did not help me at all. I had to talk with a dell representitive about the problem. Turns out, the drivers were not updated once windows update was turned on. I had already checked to see if the webcam was enabled or was broken in printers and drivers, and it said that the webcam was perfectly fine. Your answer did not help me with that. You said to go into the camera app as see it from there. I had already been into the camera app!! The problem was, I could not see what the camera was seeing; from anywhere!!!
