I have an old HP Mini 210 that is not charging properly. When I plug the PSU into the laptop I have to arrange it just right for it to power the laptop (or so I think.) I have tested this with two PSUs.

I disassembled the laptop to get to the PSU plug, which is attached via a 4pin connector to the MB.

When I test the the PSU directly at the male end, I get the proper 19v. When I plug it into the female end, but do not connect the 4pin to the MB, I get 19v. When I plug it in to the MB that power drops to 2v - 3v.

When I connect the battery the LED flashes but then stays dark. If the battery was fully powered it would be white, if the battery was charging it would be orange.

I have tested this with 2 PSU (although one male plug, spliced on to the 2nd PSU.) Both PSUs are rated for this laptop.

My thought is to buy a new MB, but any advice would be appreciated.

Solution
Hi, you have a short circuit on the motherboard, this may be just one component that bypasses the power or maybe it's just a chip. More verification is needed to find the problem.

Thanks. I figured as much and given that a new MB can be bought for $30, I think that is likely the best option.
