My laptop Compaq CQ42 is having a problem with the video .. believe it is in the hinges .. whatever video cable/connection exists there , as I can regain video by altering the angle of the laptop display but it's getting worse.. soon I suspect I will be unable to activate it that way. Asking if this is a self service item (I'm very hardware literate but have disassembled laptop hinges b4) i.e. how to disassemble and what would likely need repair or it need to go to a Compaq service center. thanks

Hi, before buying anything, look at the connector on the screen and on the motherboard, maybe with time you have a bad contact, unplug it and plug it back. If the cable is damage, you need a new one, verify the number and order the same, like this one : http

I found several youtube vids on how to disassemble the CQ42 so I'll give it an inspection and if the cable is breaking from repeated flexing, I will replace it. thanks you
