Which screens will fit my Dell Inspiron 1720 and Acer Aspire 5102WMLi laptops?

Hi,

I'm in a bit of a pickle. Some years ago I replaced my Acer Aspire 5102WMLi laptop with a Dell Inspiron 1720.

The screen on the Acer started turning pink and I tried replacing the back light inverter, but that didn't solve the problem. Other than the screen being unusable, the laptop worked fine.

At that time I was given some money by my parents and decided to splash out on a new laptop, always intending at some point to replace the Acer's faulty screen - but I never did.

I bought a lovely Dell Inspiron 1720, but unfortunately the screen on that laptop has stopped working. The screen stays black and shows no life at all.

I can use both laptops with an external monitor.

I would like to replace one or both faulty screens, but money is now tight and I can't afford to buy new replacements.

I am looking at buying a used screen off eBay, but neither model comes up that often (at the right price!) and I wondered if someone would be able to tell me if for either machine, if the screens from any other models would do the job?

This would give me a better chance of finding a replacement.

I'm not sure what other information would be relevant to help with replies, so I hope I've given enough to get started.

Thanks for taking time to read this.

Thanks, but as I mentioned, I can't afford new prices (especially here in the UK where prices are higher) and that's why I was hoping to pick up a bargain on eBay.

I thought maybe the screen from another similar model might be compatible with my model and then I would have more choice on eBay.

Appreciate your time though.

Thank you, but shipping is at least $30 on top and probably customs fees too.

I have already sourced new screens here in the UK in case I do have to buy new, so I know how much buying new will cost and that's why I'm hoping to buy used.

Thank you, but I have already tried a number of things before deciding I need to replace the screen, including swapping the RAM. Luckily my husband has the same laptop as me, so we've been able to swap parts about to check what is and isn't working - very handy!
