Hey all,

I have a Lenovo G580 laptop with Windows 8 64-Bit. I recently noticed a problem that there is no external drive showing in the "My Computer" list of drives and when I enter a new CD / DVD in my drive nothing happens. The drive is not even appearing in the Device Manager and also not in the boot menu.
Also, I did a BIOS update a month ago, after which I encountered a Boot failure error while booting through UEFI. I dont know what it is but I switched the settings to Legacy and the windows started up. May be this and the CD-Rom thing is related.

Thanks in advance, looking for a positive response

Solution
Hi, take out the battery, unplug the adapter, push the power button for 15 seconds, take out the DVD drive physically, you should have one screw to remove. Reassemble everything and look if this solve the problem.

No because if you did a bios update.

All or most of the options are set to default.

So the reason why the drive is not seen in windows.
Is because the original value or interface used for the Cd/ dvd drive has changed.
example Ahci or Sata.

Or the interface it uses is defaulted to disabled.
