[strike][/strike]hi i am looking at buying a barebone laptop without a processor. can i just pop a processor in or does it need to be soldered in?
ps if it helps im looking at the msi 937-16GC22-002

Solution
Just get the CPU that matches the socket for the msi 937 and "pop" it in, though you will need to purchase thermal paste (around $10) to put on top of CPU, no soldering required

You need to find out from MSI which processor is supported by the BIOS. Just because the CPU can fit in the socket, that does not mean it will work. If the BIOS does not recognize the CPU, then the laptop may not boot or it may operate at minimum speeds.

Whitebook laptops that uses CPU that are supposed to be soldered into the motherboard will already have the CPU embedded into the motherboard.
