Laptop is for my wife...her current laptop is a 2006 sony vaio, running 32 bit vista...

Prefer Windows 7 but open to Windows 8...Open to a touchscreen...

She's going back to school so she needs it for that kind of thing, but she also likes to play whatever MMO I happen to be playing with me, usually WoW or Rift. I might play some games on it but I already have a decently powered desktop so if I wanna play any serious games I have that.

I also might be running some low-end CAD programs(sketch-up or something similar) so I was hoping for 8 gigs of memory at least if just for multitasking.

Lastly, all the laptops I've been scouting so far don't seem to have much in the way of upgradeability. I was hoping to get something with another HDD slot open or a memory slot open in case I wanna add something into it later.

Whitecat do you own this laptop or a similar one? I'm really as to the comparisons between the Intel and AMD chips. I've been an Intel guy for the last 20 years, the only AMD computer I ever built was for my mom.

I know on the desktops the AMD APU's beat out the Intel HD graphics, is that the same on the desktops? Is 6 gigs of memory enough to get the most out of the chip? I always thought you needed at least 8 to get the most out of integrated graphics, but then again we're working with alot lower resolutions than most desktops here.

So , if you wish Intel , might get a laptop with i3 3110M, i5 3210M,i5 3230M , i7 and gpu : GT 740M,GT 640M or faster .Examples .
