So I'm stuck in something of a rut at the moment. I'm nearing the end of my second year of college, major is computer programming. I wanted to invest in a laptop that would be able to sustain itself for when I get further into my degree, however I also want it to be able to play higher end games with some sort of ease. At the moment I'm stuck between buying either an Alienware 14 or an HP envy 15 (limited edition model, though that is not the reason this one is in the running).

Posted are links for both laptops. Not sure if the Alienware is worth the almost $300 extra investment. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have thought about an Asus ROG as well, however I should also note that I have a max budget of $1170, which makes it a little more difficult to pick. I have a custom gaming desktop, however I need something mobile that has just enough bang for buck. The HP Envy 15 listed has a 2.4GHz CPU with 2GB of dedicated Nvidia graphics, which is why I thought that could be a good candidate. However it comes with windows 8.1. Only downfall.

You can get a Asus with a 660m and possibly a 760m for your price range - gaming laptops need to be durable and cool and quiet like ROG Machines.

If you get a hot machine that breaks every six months you will regret it.
