Hello!

I have a
Code:
Toshiba Satellite A215-S4747 laptop here, from 2007. Ran great the other day, next day only thing that happened when it was turned on was the fan spinning for 3 sec.
Black screen, nothing else happening.
Not showing the toshiba bios logo, not booting windows.

I disassembled the Laptop,
 checked the drive,
Cleaned everything,
Did take out ram and cpu,
I noticed the gpu is running very hot ( obviously not cooled)
Tried different power cord.
Different monitor

My guess is the motherboard died.

Any other suggestion of what I could do would be nice.
The person that owns the laptop has not that much money, so she cant just buy a new one.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Kind regards

Solution

The CPU worked in another mainboard, which means the CPU is in good condition.
It is sure that the mainboard of Toshiba has problem now. I suggest to try next steps:
1. Clean the RAM and RAM Slot. If RAM is dirty, it doesnot have good contact, and laptop cannot boot
2. If step 1 fails, try to cool the GPU chip by replacing new glue.
3. If it still fails, now you need to do check power supplies on the mainboard:
- V_in system: 19V
- Main power: 3V and 5V
- Sub powers: CPU core, RAM voltage, Chipset voltages
4. After checking power supplies on the mainboard, you can know what the problem is. As you said, the GPU is very hot, so the problem...

Hope this can help you!
