lost lg bluray audio

I have an LG bluray home theater that I use for all my audio playback. I recently purchased a Gateway laptop with an HDMI output which I could connect to the bluray player to watch and hear videos from the laptop. This was just plug and play until today. My bluray shut down, would only turn back on by the remote and when it came on, the display showed a line of ones (11111111) and would not respond to any input. I unplugged the bluray and plugged back in but now I have no audio on video playback from laptop.
From the laptop, it recognizes the bluray player but says it is disconnected.
Any thoughts on what I can do?

Try another input if there is any. Try another source to play though the system as well. The home theater could have died or at least some of the inputs could have gone bad.

Sounds to me like the audio "unit" has failed.

On these units, if you think of them like very basic motherboards (usually they have power cards that are separate to the comp board) with integrated sound cards. I would test with another unit as suggested but if it has failed and it's out of warranty it'll be more cost effective to replace it than repair.
