Hello everyone. I am a current senior in high school and planning to major in computer science this fall. I was wondering if anyone can help me choose a laptop that is good for both computer science and gaming. My budget would be about $600-700. I am pretty new to laptops and what they require. All i know is that for computer science I need at least 6 GB of RAM and for gaming I would need a discrete graphics card. Can anyone recommend any laptops or options for me?

I would be playing games like battlefield 4, project spark, titan fall, elder scroll online etc.

Yea, you should be able to play most games on medium to high, its only con Ive heard about is its low battery life. Also i recommend looking around for that model in other places too, Ive seen lower prices for it. Overall Lenovo have been offering some great values laptops, you can look at their other Y models (like a y500p also)

$600/700 budget for battlefield 4 is tough, heres a couple

Good one though slightly over budget: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lenovo-IdeaPad-Y410p-i7-4700MQ-Quad-Core-GT-755M-2GB-8GB-1TB-Gaming-Laptop-/161193445928?pt=Laptops_Nov05&hash=item2587e0ca28 Very strong CPU and the GPU is good

I like this alot, great value: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Latitude-3540-15-6-i5-4200U-500GB-HD-4GB-DDR3-1080p-Windows-8-Pro-AMD-8850m-/251409165737?pt=Laptops_Nov05&hash=item3a89276da9 The CPU isnt great but the GPU is good enough, should be able to play BF4 at low to medium, I like it because I would upgrade the CPU when I needed more power

No you cant upgrade GPU on most laptops, usually the custom built allow it but they have lots of restrictions as well and expensive, though the CPU usually can be upgraded. They both should be good enough but battery life can be a problem on rather powerful laptops (the first one is quite powerful). Im guessing in your first year you wont be taking many computer science classes so you can save up and get a better laptop after the first year or so
