Hi,
Can someone please summarise the best headphones, the advantages and disadvantages, of them. Cost is not an issue. I have been looking at ones such as the sennheiser hd800 or some audio technicas.
I will be using them mainly for gaming and recording so I need a separate mic anyway.

Thanks for your help! :)

well if you want to say "the best possible" it would be a pair of really high end studio headphones with desktop amplifier and a professional recording microphone however we are talking some really big wads of cash there. you could be talking $600+ for headphones, $300+ for amp and $400+ for a microphone. and thats not even the highest end products available on the market.

if you want to be quite a bit more reasonable in price (say around $150-200 +/-) i would definitely go with the audio technica ath-m50s studio headphones for $99 since they are probably the best stereo headphones you can get under $250 and pair it up with a decent desk mic in the $50-100 range. perhaps something from here...

a desktop amplifier is optional for the m50s. they will sound a bit deeper and go a bit louder with an amp however it isnt required since they dont have a huge power draw. more than low end headphones for sure but not too high (even mobile phones can power them)
