Happy New Year to all!! Recently bought an U530 touch ultrabook 59385621 with Haswell Core i7-4500u processor, 8GB RAM, 500 GB 5400 rpm HDD with built in 8gb Flash (for quick boot times) 1920x1080 10 point touchscreen, and the best (claim) of all 10 hrs of battery time (non realistic, only when computer is idle), but at least 6-8hrs of full HD playback.
I am barely getting 3-4 hrs of battery life after 100% charge running basic web browsers, maybe a little pandora, working on word documents at 70% brightness, with bluetooth, intel smart connect and other battery draining programs turned off. I tried to reduce the brightness to 60% or less! but it puts a strain on the eyes.
My lenovo is only three days old, I've already reset the battery gauge meter once, and I haven't found any improvement yet. The battery meter is unreliable, sometimes when I start up and have a 100%charge it shows 1.5 hrs left, after opening the web browser and doing my work, the estimated time switches to 4.5 and if I do something else it either goes up in estimate or goes down in estimate ( as per it's mood), is this how it is usually for everyone? I am currently using the laptop on balanced mode with dimming display at 5 minutes of idle. The 3-4 hour battery time I'm report is based on actual usage time (e.g from 7:30 to 11:00 pm)
Please advice if you have any suggestions to improve my battery runtime, or whether you think I got a lemon and should exchange it. I live very close to the Lenovo headquarters in Morrisville,NC so actually driving over to their office and getting a replacement wouldn't be an issue for me.
Or if this is the best I can expect in terms if battery life, I would have to go return it to Best buy within my 15 day return period and get a different brand.
I appreciate al the help. Thanks.
