Hey guys and gals. So I just got an AVR to work with my 5.1 system (i.e. not computer speakers but a traditional home theatre system), but I'm having difficulty getting all of the inputs and outputs setup with my computer. Real quick, here are the relevant components:

AVR: Pioneer VSX-822-K
MOBO: Gigabyte Z87N-WIFI
Graphics: GeForce GTX-760
OS: Windows 8

So, I've got a dual-monitor setup and what I've been doing for the past few weeks is I have one monitor directly connected from the video card. The other is connected to the receiver from the GTX through an HDMI connection and then from the receiver output to the monitor. This was working... sort-of. I wasn't able to get 5.1 (could only get stereo). Furthermore, last week my system stopped recognizing the receiver, even though nothing about the setup had changed! I updated my drivers and it was working again for a short time, but the same problem cropped up again this evening :(. So, I'm looking for suggestions on how to optimize my configuration. After doing some research, it seems like it might be best to run both monitors out of the GTX and then have the motherboard handle audio and output to the receiver, but I'm not quite sure how to do that. I guess what would be optimal would be for my mobo to send the audio data to the receiver which would then drive the speakers, while the monitors are connected to the graphics card. Is this possible?

Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

P.S. I don't really care about getting display information on the receiver, I just want it to process the audio to the speakers.

Solution
Your mobo has optical digital audio output so use that to feed the receiver. Set up audio devices to enable the optical audio and connect the monitors directly as you suggest. Will work fine. No more issues with HDMI trying to determine what you want automatically and making life hard.

Are you referring to the 'SPDIF Out' port? If so, will I just need to connect that to the 'Optical In' on the receiver?

Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.
