I'm trying to help my neighbor set up her TV. The biggest problem is she is not technical AT ALL and so we need a solution that will be VERY VERY simple.
The system she is using;
Bell Express Vu receiver,
Samsung 39" 1080p 60Hz LED HDTV (UN39EH5003FXZC),
VCR / DVD Combo
Right now she is using the Bell remote to turn on the ExpressVu box and the TV.
The problem she has is when she wants to watch a VHS tape the only way to do it is for her to change the input and that's when it gets complicated for her. Trying to select the input freaks her out and so she does not want to try it because she will then have to figure out how to go back to be able to watch regular TV.
What I was hoping to do is somehow connect the VCR/ DVD combo via HDMI which I was hoping when the VCR/DVD combo is turned on the TV would recognize it and voila she is watching her VHS tape. When she is done she would power off the VCR/DVD and power on the ExpressVu box and the TV which is connected via HDMI recognize that and she is watching TV.
I hope this all makes sense and really hope someone has a solution to help her and me out. My wife is getting annoyed at me going over there to turn her TV or VCR on .

Solution
Get a Logitech Harmony remote and program it.

You can designate one button to do multiple things.
Turn on DVD player
Select the correct input on the TV
Press Play on the DVD

After:
Turn OFF DVD
Change TV input to regular TV
Change channel to CBS

Later:
Turn OFF TV

Each on a different, clearly labeled, button.
