Hi,
P855 -34P Toshiba laptop failed water damaged (so i was told by Toshiba) I bought a refurbed motherboard. P855-34P and also had the recovery discs from Tosh to get the thing going. Recovery discs do write to the hard drive cos i checked the hard drive in my other laptop, and the windows recovery is where it should be. My problem is its asking for the boot record and to press any key etc.
The Bios does recognise the hard drive and it is set to boot from it. All the other solutions dont seem to work, i have trolled the internet many times and nothing seems to fit with this problem. BTW i have Hirens boot CD and the Toshiba disc check says the disc is a failure!! But i have a new disc from Toshiba, and it also said this disc is a failure.
So the operating system is on the HDD the Bios recognises the HDD but it will not boot from it??
Any new ideas would be very gratefully recieved

So the recovery disk worked with your system to start the system image onto your hard drive but when done it did not boot correct? There should be a key you can hit to get to the boot menu options when starting the laptop, do that and select the hard drive. Make sure there are no other disks or USB drives connected to the system.

yes you are correct this is F12 on this model. and it is set to boot from the hard drive which is recognised in the Bios.
I have just tried again it seems the MBR is corrupt but im not sure how to repair this without an operating system.
Microsoft solutions are based on using windws recovery discs which i dont have. i only have the Toshiba discs which as i said earlier will not boot?

You can't boot to the recovery disks or to the hard drive after the recovery is done? The recovery process goes though just fine correct?

You can get an ISO of Windows 7 from a download and use that to repair the MBR, although that should have been setup when the recovery disk imaged the system.

You should check the drive settings in the BIOS for drive interface type. It should be either AHCI or ATA (sometimes also called Legacy). Try setting it to the other setting from what it is, see if it boots to the drive then.
