I'm really sorry if I'm posting in the wrong section ><
I'm quite an idiot when it comes to computers so excuse me if I do sound like one.

My laptop is a HP Pavilion dv6-6b13tx Entertainment Notebook. 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7-2670QM, 6 MB L3 cache, and running on 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3. It has an ATI Radeon HD 6490M as well as the Intel HD Graphics.

My laptop screen suddenly blacked out 2 days ago when I was surfing FB. I could hear that it was still running just that the screen didnt show anything. Restarting the laptop got me stuck at the windows logo and I used system repair multiple times to no avail. The option to revert back didn't help either.

So, I reinstalled windows 7 and somehow on startup I had the option of 2 "windows 7"s, one was the totally new one and the other was the old one. I had to install the device drivers for the new windows, and it was all working fine until I installed the GPU drivers, which caused windows to fail to load again upon restarting. Uninstalling the drivers or disabling the GPUs allowed the laptop to work fine on BOTH instances of Windows 7.

Memtest didn't have any errors when I ran it overnight. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, using Driver Sweeper and official drivers from HP and from the AMD website, but all to no avail. If I enabled only one GPU, while disabling the other one, the com would start up, but the supposedly enable one would show "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" This happens for both GPUs. If the ATI card is the one enabled, it also comes with this notification "No AMD graphics driver installed or the AMD driver is not functioning properly. Please install the AMD driver appropriate for your AMD hardware".

Sorry for the wall of text, but I haven't been able to find a forum post anywhere by someone with the exact same problem as me. Since both GPUs dont seem to work, could it be a mobo problem? My warranty expires 29/12/2013 so I'm hoping it isnt a hardware problem ><

Try the warranty repair anyway, it's SO close to the warranty period that if you can find a good service center person to talk to, you are pretty likely to get help. The key is to be calm and not start cursing at them and the company for being idiots for making crappy products. Going up a few levels with senior people can help if the first person you talk to tells you no. The upper managers tend to have more interest in retaining a possible future customer and keeping people from bad mouthing the company.
