One day after flying to colorado from California I turned on my laptop and it booted normally. When I started to adjust the screen, the screen turned off. All the lights on the keyboard and operating lights (power, charging, RAM, wifi, etc) were all on. I hit the power button and put it up since I wasn't able to work on it at the time. When I got home I plugged it into an external monitor via hdmi. It started and displayed the screen on the external normally. However there was still no screen activity on the laptop. It is an asus R510C series. Any advice or tips?

If it shows on an external monitor but not on the laptop screen, either the screen ribbon cable has come loose, the inverter/ccfl has died or the lcd screen has died.

If you boot your laptop to external monitor, then unplug the monitor - try shining a flashlight across the screen to see if you can see any data/screen info - if you can, then the inverter/ccfl has died. If not, either the screen has died or the cable has come loose.
