I have a windows 7 64 bit system with the following hardware:

Mobo: ASRock z87 extreme4
Graphics: MSI nVidia gtx 760
CPU: intel 4770k

I received a new monitor for Christmas, and upon plugging it in for a dual-monitor setup, my 5.1 channel configuration isn't working properly anymore. There is no sound out of the front left speaker, and when I run the sound tests, sound comes out of the front-right speaker during the test for the front-left speaker. None of the wires for the speaker configuration have been altered since they last worked. Sound is working properly for the other speakers.

I just updated to the most recent drivers for RealtekHD on ASRock's product page for the motherboard.

Solution
On the GPU driver settings, often there is an "automatic configuration" check box - what happens is when HDMI video is detected that supports audio, it tries to switch to HDMI audio (even though you disabled it). Make sure that is not checked....

I am using HDMI, but I have disable all other visible audio devices in the playback devices menu.

Well doing that didn't fix it. I'm tempted to just switch to a dvi cord, but the ones that I have are not long enough.
