At first I thought it was a connection problem, but as soon as I tried any other browser, it became evident that there's something corrupt in Chrome's configuration. Now I carried the personal data I have now with me over 10 different copies of various versions of Windows OS and I wouldn't be too happy to lose it in order to regain my browsers functionality. Is there a certain configuration file I can reset to default or a piece of software that'll optimize my browser to return to its original way of working or is my only option to reinstall the whole browser app?

Solution
Open internet explorer, click Tools then Internet Options, Connection tab then LAN settings, UNcheck auto detect proxy settings.

Restart Chrome and see the difference, also worth removing any add-ons you don't use.
