Hey all,

I'm having an issue with my laptop, it takes hours (without exagerating) to get to POST. When I press power button, the screen will remain switched off after one hour or more and then it starts POST. Once it gets in the OS (Windows 7) it runs perfectly well; smooth and fast. Strange thing is that when rebooting, it won't take so long, instead, it will boot normally, just as any laptop. I've been searching, and it seems a CPU Failure issue according to HP, since the Caps Lock LED is blinking once. While the screen is off, the HDD LED remains off, and the disk reader sounds like trying to read a disk. I tried inserting a Live CD, but it will still take ages. I can hear de CPU fan running, and all upper softkeys light up, just like normally. I'm out of warranty by the way.

Laptop model: HP Pavilion dv7-1220es

Thanks in advanced. :)

It might be a dead CMOS battery that needs replacing.

I have an old IBM Thinkpad T41 from 2003 and it takes about 10-15 minutes for it to boot up from a cold start. But once it boots into Windows and I restart the laptop it will start up normally.

CMOS batteries eventually dies and I think mine basically died back in 2007 / 2008. Never bothered to replace it 'cause it even struggles with web surfing. There a lot more behind the scene processes now in web pages compared to 10 years ago.
