so I have problem with my ear buds from my mobile phone. I know that there a three lines on the plug of the ear buds while other headphones for PC use two lines (exp. http

So my question is, am I safe to cover the third line of the plug with duct tape or something to make them work correctly since I can't use the "half plugged in" technique because I have the ASUS sound manager and it won't read it till I fully plug it in.
Sorry if I didn't explain the problem right.
EDIT: They also only work if I hold a small button on the ear buds.
