Hello,
I have purchased Asus N550jv laptop. It has 12 GB of ram. When I checked the Asus website it shows that the maximum ram that can be installed is 16 GB.
But according to intel's website my processor (i7-4700HQ) can support upto 32GB of ram. So how come Asus only says maximum 16GB?

Solution
The maximum amount of RAM is also determined by the motherboard. They elected to use one that supports 16GB.

Really there's very little reason to have more than 8GB unless you're doing very heavy scientific or engineering programs. 16GB is generally massive over kill and 32GB just has no point in a laptop. you'd need a high end workstation or server to be in a position to take advantage of that much memory
